We can often feel very emotionally connected to our artwork, and sometimes when we receive feedback we don’t like, it can feel very personal. This can especially be the case when we aren't used to receiving it. I’ve put some tips together to help you navigate these tricky waters!
Tips
- It can be useful to sit with feedback for a while, and allow your initial reaction to pass. Then come back to it with a fresh perspective.
- When we receive feedback, we find some comments resonate more than others. Those are the things we pay most attention to.

- Thank people that respond to you - even if you don’t agree. They have taken the time to try and help you out.
Giving feedback is a skill, and everyone is at a different level. It can help to remember that people are learning how to give feedback, just as they are learning to develop their artistic skills.
Developing your ability to analyse images is really useful. It helps to develop your eye, and in turn improves your own work, so don’t be afraid to jump in and help others!
